Tai Chi: Day 1!
Alright, so I have been taking Kung Fu classes for approximately 5 months now. No regrets: nothing but love and dedication towards pushing myself to get better, stronger and more focused. After taking the Tai Chi workshops in November, I confirmed that I wanted to add this internal martial art into the mix. However, with my work and dance schedule, I couldn’t fit any of the available Tai...

Kung Fu: Seizing Block Defense and the Preparation...
My reward for shoveling us out of the house today was to attend Kung Fu this evening. (Would have really liked to attend Tai Chi as well, but apparently a well-needed nap won me over!)
Due to the aftermath of the blizzard, and the general winter break from Christmas to New Years, we only had three people in class. This worked out to my benefit, because I got to work more on my technique of Sau...

A "cultured" weekend
This weekend was certainly a busy one. I surrounded myself with a variety of entertainment…
Friday: Saw my husband play with Big Ben Hillman and the Royal Family. They played a 45 minute set of awesome funk music. They sounded great as always!
Saturday: Went to see the Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker at the Boston Opera House. I love all forms of dance and have been wanting to see the...

Shoulders drop, elbows sink, wrists rest, fingers extend.
– Chinese martial arts saying - very relevant in many Kung Fu formations.

Kung Fu: 6 Sau Chue
Again, a little behind on Kung Fu posts, but considering I was away on vacation, that probably makes sense. Thank goodness I did a lot of walking and a couple rounds at the fitness center while in San Diego, or I’d be hurting even more than I am now coming back. A week away definitely makes a difference for me, I can feel it, especially stretching wise.
Anyway, I finally learned the...

Remainder of San Diego
Alright, I need to wrap up this trip since it’s back to work in the morning. This is the last two days of our San Diego vacation, short and sweet:
Thursday - went to Sea World. Took a bus detour due to some bad advice by the concierge, but we got there in time to spend a few hours. Honestly, I enjoyed the San Diego Zoo more. Since it was a quiet day though, we got to see just about...

Fourth Day at San Diego
After two straight days of walking, we wanted a little breather. So after kicking back and forth many ideas, we decided upon the Brewery Tours of San Diego. We were picked up at the timeshare at noon and our tour guide picked up one more person. We visited two breweries on our tour. We first visited Stone Brewery, where we tasted five beers. Most of the beers we tried were pale ales, IPAs and...

Third Day at San Diego!
We thought we’d take it easy today after experiencing the San Diego Zoo. We thought wrong.
We headed back to Balboa Park to see the Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) It was a small museum with three rotating exhibits, so we spent about an hour there. Then we strolled over to the Timken Museum of Art, which is a free museum housing European paintings, American paintings, and Russian...

Second day at San Diego!
We got an early start to the day and ate breakfast at Brian’s 24. Delicious breakfast meals, and such huge portions. We shared one meal and it was perfect! Definitely doing breakfast again there this week.
Afterwards, we took Bus #7 to the San Diego Zoo. We spent six hours walking all over the place, taking hundreds of photos. So many wonderful animals. Favorites had to include:...

First full day of San Diego!
Our first full day in San Diego was spent between Old Town and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Old Town is the oldest settled area in San Diego and is the site of the first European settlement in present-day California. We took the Blue Line Trolley (similar to the MBTA in Boston) to Old Town and took some time to walk along the area and take photos, especially the Old Town San Diego State...
