Kung Fu: The dreaded plateau...
Tonight was a quiet night at Kung Fu class. There were only four of us, so the first half hour was spent doing core routine, then weight training, followed by Small Plum Flower Fist against focus mitts. Then I started working on my form, Ng Lun Choy. Barely five minutes into it, Shi-fu calls out that my horse stance/cover stance transition is still off.
So how did I spend the rest of class?...

Continuing the liquor tasting experiment...
I must admit, this has been fun! With the craziness of both my regular job, my second job doing tax returns, and my kung fu training, I have been enthusiastic in trying new scotches, bourbons, tequilas, etc. Everything in moderation, of course, hence why you see many of the tastings with 50mL nips. What have I discovered so far?
Macallan rules, hands down: we now own two bottles of Macallan, a...

Scotch and other alcoholic tastings on a Friday...
After dinner on Friday night, Ben and I swung over to Gordon’s Liquors on Main Street in Waltham. This is one of our favorite liquor stores. Why? Because it is one of the few stores that allows you to buy single bottles of beer, like mix-and-match a 6-pack. This works out great if you want to try new beers without committing to a full 6-pack. The manager, Kurt, is simply amazing. In the...

Kung Fu: Endurance Realizations
Wednesday night at Kung Fu, I had attempted to stay for two 1-hour long sessions. The first hour was brutal… running, followed by non-stop floor drills, followed by a circuit training with jump rope, sit-ups with medicine ball, jumping with medicine balls, dead lifts, and hanging from a pullup bar. All that endurance training took the life out of me. I was sick to my stomach and completely...

My new Nikon D7000 Battery Grip!
As I continue with my photography, I am always trying to find ways to perfect my technique or maximize my comfort from shooting and carrying gear all day. In the last few years, I never considered a high-end DX-format DSLR. Why, you ask? I assumed that the camera body itself would be too big for my hands. I also felt that the camera would be too heavy to carry for long periods of time. That was...

Introduction into Scotch and Bourbon Whiskey = New...
One of my experiences from my trip to Switzerland was trying certain types of alcohol for the first time. I tried both scotch and bourbon whiskey, along with cognac. My favorite was the Macallan 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whiskey. I felt in love with the taste and realized that I was missing a whole other world of liquor to enjoy. Too bad I realized afterwards that the scotch I loved...

Kung Fu: Improvements Achieved and Improvements...
In the last couple of weeks, I have been drilling into my Kung Fu classes. Despite it being tax season, I am still trying to budget my time accordingly so that I can go to class 3-4 times a week.
In the last two weeks, my Shi-Fu complimented me on two things I haven’t been able to achieve in my 1.5 years of training. Last week, I was doing side kicks on the heavy bags. Shi-fu stated...
